  • Franz Schubert Piano quintet in A major “Trout”

Franz Schubert was just 22 years old, enjoying a countryside hiking vacation when he composed his magnificent Trout Quintet. Many know it through the famous song “Die Forelle” (The Trout), which serves as the theme in the fourth movement. Instead of following the traditional composition for a piano quintet, Schubert chose to include a double bass, allowing the pianist the freedom to dance in the higher registers of the piano. It is a true masterpiece in the chamber music genre, filled with joy for all to embrace.

To complete our program, our chamber ensemble aims to highlight Vaughan Williams’ Piano Quintet. It is a beautifully and superbly written piece that fully explores the capabilities of each instrument. Despite its exquisite beauty, this composition is not often performed on concert stages.
