This year’s Candlelight Concert will showcase the Camerata Nordica Chamber Ensemble in collaboration with Norwegian mezzo-soprano Maria Ejderson Sveinungsen.

The evening begins with Ottorino Respighi’s Il Tramonto, a piece that explores themes of love and loss through the seamless blend of the mezzo-soprano’s voice with the rich harmonies of the strings.

Following this, the audience will be treated to Franz Schubert’s renowned String Quartet No. 14 in D minor “Death and the Maiden,” which showcases Schubert’s profound understanding of human emotions through dramatic contrasts.

The concert concludes with the world premiere of Tina Anderson’s new work for string quartet and mezzo-soprano, written in 2024. Inspired by Sara Teasdale’s A November Night from her work Lovesongs, this composition – End of Lovesongs – offers a poignant reflection on the fleeting nature of love through lyrical and expressive music. Tina Andersson has in her work on the story together with Carolina Johansson added a sense of the echoing emptiness lost love leaves behind later filling it with illusory memories of past events.

End of Love Songs is a short opera produced by Länsmusiken and composed with support from Helge Ax:son Johnsons foundation.
