Bohemian – according to the glossary something characterised by freedom from rules and planning, in everyday understanding also artistic and unusual.

We often have the opportunity to listen to power quartets, but there is a treasure of music that you don’t hear as often, if you just add a violin. Several composers have written works for this slightly more unusual setting such as Mozart, Dvorak, Beethoven, Brahms and others. These works also deserve to be played and heard! The setting itself can thus be said to be bohemian, but also in the opening piece by Dvorak you can hear the originality. It is the beautiful string quintet that was composed in the USA that nicely captures the inspiration Dvorak found in the American expression.

In this program there is also a short but magical piece by the Bulgarian composer Dobrinka Tabakova “Organum Light”, composed in 2014.

The end of the concert is Brahms’ String Quintet No. 2, with which Brahms said he wanted to end his career as a composer, although he actually wrote a couple more pieces later.

This is one of Brahms’ finest works, with strong influences from Eastern European music and culture. Exuberant, elegant, subtle, original and unmistakable Brahms in every measure!
